Two days ago, a small black line appeared in the right top part of my laptop. The nex day it transform into a complete black horizontal line that cross all the top part of my screen.

I don´t move my laptop from my desk, it hasn´t fallen, no hits, anything.

What could happen?

Thank you very much for any help.

Dell 15Z 5523 - Network / Wireless struggles installing Windows 7 64 bit.

Hi all,

I'm really struggling to install WIndows 7 on a Dell 5523.  I've got the majority of the drivers etc. installed but am struggling to get the WIFI up and running despite installing the Qualcomm Atheros drivers successfully.   The minicard drivers don't seem to install, nor do the Nvidia drivers and I'm not sure why.

I've installed the various intel chipsets (I've reinstalled to make sure I got them in the correct order), but device manager still shows that there is an unrecognised network controller:

PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0034&SUBSYS_E052105B&REV_01

I've tried various bits of advice online, including similar issues identified on this forum, but just can't seem to get it to work.   Any idea where I might be going wrong?

Thanks in Advance!

How to get 2 external monitors at 2560x1600 with M3510 and Pro3X

I'm trying to get a Dell Precision M3510 with a Pro3X dock to drive two external monitors, each at 2560x1600. I tried a Displayport MST hub that supports two monitors at this resolution using the Displayport on the dock. While device manage shows the two monitors (so the MST hub works ok), the the highest resolution it would support was 1920x1200. If I attempted to make one 2560x1600, the resolution on the other would be dropped to something incredibly low.

The only solution I have found is to use the DP on the dock, and the HDMI output on the M3510. While the DP supports 60Hz refresh, the HDMI output only supports a max refresh of 30Hz, with either 32 bit or 16 bit colour depth. The HDMI standard supports 60Hz at this resolution, so this seems like a hardware limitation.

All these tests were done after updating the BIOS and Intel HD530 device drivers to the latest.

I cannot find any information about resolution/refresh and external monitor support for the M3510. Even the information on the Pro3X only mentions what connectors it provides but no mention of the supported resolution + refresh rates. So it's no clear whether the EPort II plus with 2 display port outputs would support 2 monitors at 2560x1600.

XPS 15 9550 - Slow with external display different scaling

When switching between laptop+external monitor to only laptop screen several times (when needing to leave the office desk for various reasons) things on the external monitor get quite slow. When using Chrome, for example, a new page will scroll noticeably slower, and will often flash maybe half of the screen as it's loading a new page. Even closing and opening Chrome again doesn't fix the issue. And it only happens when Chrome is displayed on the external monitor - on the laptop screen it seems to work fine.

I have the 9550, with 4K screen. My external monitor is 2560x1440 32", which means it scales at 100% whereas the 4K laptop screen goes to 250%. I know that many of the issues with scaling are Windows and not Dell, but I highly suspect a driver issue.

Any ideas on a fix?

XPS15 9550 - Slow scrolling and page loading in Chrome on external monitor

I'm using an external monitor that scales at 100% (1440p 32"). The internal monitor is 4K, so scales at 250%. In a day I might need to plug and unplug the external monitor (from HDMI port) several times, and after a few times, it seems to struggle with switching between the scaling of external and internal monitors. On Chrome, for example, scrolling sometimes is noticeably lagging, and new pages will flash multiple times as they are loading. Moving Chrome over to the internal monitor (with 250% scaling) and everything seems to work fine. Restarting Chrome doesn't change the issue. A whole reboot is necessary.

I would guess it's a driver issue. I also have light screen flickering, though I only notice it when not using the external monitor.

I have an Alienware M14X R1 laptop and was wondering if it'd be possible to upgrade the display to a 1080P one.

I'm aware the laptop is a bit dated but I got it at a great price. The hardware is still surprisingly good but I was hoping to upgrade the screen to a 1080P one. Is that possible? I've heard of it being done on the R2 models.

If possible what should I do?

Vertical, mostly green lines, cover the lower half of the screen, and flickers in brightness and sometimes different shades of pink. Horizontally, the top half of the screen also appears in the bottom half of the screen. Have gone through all the Dell recommended diagnostics except for the external monitor because I don't have access to one.

The split screen starts when the laptop is powered on. I have uninstalled the video card, didn't work. I have clean installed Windows10 and formatted the disc, didn't work. I have went all through the settings and control panel. I have looked at all options in the BIOS setup. Is there a way to to factory reset, not restore, from an iso file to before any windows os was ever installed? I am extremely frustrated with trying to find a solution on my own so I am asking the community for help. If you know of a solution please let me know. Thank you.

Dell inspiron N5010 display issue

Hello,

I have an inspiron N5010 laptop (out of warranty), which was working fine all these years.

Unfortunately, yesterday when I tried to turn it on, the system initiated normaly but the screen remained blank and then it started beeping 8 times every 3-5 seconds. According to what I found online, 8 beeps indicate an LCD failure. When I tried to connect it to a TV monitor via HDMI cable nothing came up, the monitor detected the connected device but it had no signal.
Since the screen is blank, I cannot run the diagnostics neither enter the BIOS setup. In case of an LCD failure I could replace it by myself, but I cannot be sure if that is the problem. Could you please tell me what can I do to distinguish if it is LCD or GPU failure?
I have to mention that the laptop was suffering from overheating, hence I used a cooler to reduce the temperature.

Thanks

Latitude E7450 will not show 4K on external monitor

$

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 running win 10 that I connect to a Dell U2913WM using a HDMI cable.

The computer used to show the correct display settings the last 10 months or so (extend the screen and use 2560 x 1080 on the external monitor) when I connect them. Since a few days however the highest possible screen resolution is 1920 on the external monitor and the computer never remembers the "extend" settings but rather use the "only use external monitor" option when they are connected.

I have updated the drivers for display, graphics card and rebooted a lot of times but still the same. I guess this is probably a Win 10 issue since its probably related to some update - but I still can't figure out how to solve this. Ideas?
