Possible Display Issue - New Inspiron 7000 series 17 inch 7737

I've just bought the following laptop and have had it for three days:

New Inspiron 17 7000-series Inspiron 17 - 7737, Windows 8 64bit, English
6GB Dual Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (4GBx1 + 2GBx1)
Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M 2GB DDR5
44cm (17.3") LED Backlit Display with Truelife and HD+ resolution (1600 x 900) (Touch Screen)

I've had various teething issues with Win 8 and user accounts which has meant that I still haven't installed any other software yet and on top of that one potential hardware issue is making me ponder whether the machine needs to go back before I become fully reliant on it!

I had an XPS 1530 laptop before this and absolutely loved it. I had the 1440 x 900 screen, which was beautifully crisp and no video issues until after 5 years the dedicated graphics card died and the onboard card was too basic to carry on with. My main requirements for a replacement were a dedicated graphics card, fairly decent amount of RAM and a built in optical drive and since one way or another I was going to end up with win 8, I thought I'd get a touch screen to make it easier to use.

But something doesn't seem right about this screen. From the moment I loaded it up every now and again I thought I could see a sort of blurriness, especially when the metro screen slides or flips in. It's like I can see every individual cell of the LCD display. My first thought was that I'm seeing the mesh of the touch screen but I have never encountered this on any smart phone or iPad. It's different from being able to see the compression on a jpeg (which is also now very apparent but I would expect that at this res). I see the blur/mesh most of all on areas of a pure block colour.

Am I going mad? I've not had a 17 inch laptop before and with retrospect a max 1600 x 900 doesn't seem that high a resolution for a screen this size and I'm not sure I would have described that as HD+ either. I understand that the machine switches between the Intel HD graphics and the NVIDIA but I still wouldn't expect the onboard card to have issues with motion on a machine this spec.

Is it a fault or a "feature"???
