I took my 9400 to a repair shop because it (more often than not) powers up without the backlight on. I did not agree with their assessment (I am a EE with decades of experience using PC for software development and uP systems design). But I have not found a fix for this. I do not believe the problem is hardware. The display backlight may never show, may flash during certain parts of power up, or will come on then stay on. There is no relation to moving the display, shock, temperature. The brightness control works fine if visible, but changing brightnes does not turn on the backlight if it was off. Video is there as confirmed with flashlight and external monitor. In the process of trying to fix this, the setup options for resolution no longer fit the display (1440/900). I have run the Dell diagnostics and replaced the driver for the video chip set, but no luck. Any suggestions for either issue?
