Greetings everyone,
Earlier this year I purchased a Dell Alienware M17X R4 laptop for work and entertainment purposes. I have run into no trouble with the system at all; it runs better than I had imagined before I purchased the system, and much better than my other laptops and desktops. I have installed all of my work software, running amazingly quickly, and the day before yesterday, I decided to install some of the games that I purchased for this system, not being able to run on my other computers.
I installed Battlefield 3, Crysis 3, and Metro: Last Light on this system, and used Switchable Graphics to set these programs to run with my high performance GPU (AMD Radeon HD 7970M), though I have found a few problems in similarity with a few of these games. When I play any high-end PC games on my system, after about half an hour of playing, the game freezes and I am forced to kill the process of the game with Windows Task Manager. I have never played Crysis 3 or Metro: Last Light for more than half an hour at once, because the games crash after that time. When I play Battlefield 3, however, I can play for a slightly longer duration, but cannot run it in fullscreen at 1080p.
I am trying to find solutions for all of these problems with these games right now, but the more specifically, I want to know how I can prevent the games from crashing after a certain period of time. No program has crashed before, and Crysis 3 was the first on this system to crash.
My system specifications, in case they are required:
Intel i7-3630QM
AMD Radeon HD 7970M
6GB RAM (4GB Nanya, 2GB Hyundai)
I would really appreciate some help here. I didn't purchase such a costly piece of equipment for work; I have other computers that I can work from; I wanted this for entertainment, so I would be quite disappointed if I didn't receive any support.
I've heard that this problem may be because of heat issues, but I use Core Temp and a Cooler Master cooling pad, and keeps the system under 60 degrees Celsius, even during gameplay. I shall keep trying to find a solution to this problem, and meanwhile, wait for this question to be answered.
Best regards,
-F
