Hey
I have a Dell Precision M6600 with Quadro 4000m GPU & have the severe problem of the screen going black/crashing extremely randomly (sitting idle not doing anything/ browsing internet/ using 3Ds Max/ Using Photoshop/ Using Resolume). Sometimes it will go 10 seconds before crashing other times its 1 hour other times its 5. You get what i mean.. Very random not reproducible.
It looks to be a driver issue as occasionally instead of going to straight to black screen the driver will fail, recover.; then inevitably fail again going to a black screen. Dell Diagnostics say the hardware is fine.
Only way to recover is to do a hard reset by holding the power button in.
Before you tell me to wipe everything and re-install from clean i realize this problem occurred after i installed latest drivers and windows updates. However the computer is to be used not left at a clean slate.... its a good machine there is some severe software confliction going on.
I have done a lot of research and it seems this quite a common thing. Most people who have had this problem have had Dell replace multiple parts, multiple times before its fixed. The computer is out of warranty so I do not have the option of trying multiple different Quadro cards/ motherboards etc as that's extremely expensive.
I would dearly like to know is there a stable solution to this reoccurring problem. IS there a specific driver that is stable etc.
I could cope if this was to be used purely as a home works station however i bought it so i could use it creating live visuals(VJ'ing) as well as 3D model etc. It works perfectly apart from this Black Screen of Death (BSOD). Q_Q
I've tried updating to the latest driver 9.18.13.5012, windows is fully updated with SP1 + extras.
Specs are:
i7 - 2820QM 2.3GHZ
Quadro 4000m
16GB Ram
2x 256GB SSD (in Stripe Raid).
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
