Dell Precision M4700 - Periodically Goes Into Bitlocker Recovery, then Second Monitor Stops Working

I’ve been hitting a weird issue very intermittently with my Dell Precision M4700 for the past half year or so. I’m running Windows 8.1 fully patched, I have the latest BIOS for the laptop (A13), and I’m running the latest Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver (10.18.10.4061). I pretty much always shut down my laptop gracefully when I’m done using it.

Every now and then (it’s happened multiple times yesterday and today), when I boot the laptop, it will prompt me for my Bitlocker recovery key. Once I enter it, boot, and log into my account, my second monitor no longer displays anything. Windows acts like the monitor is still there, and lets me drag the mouse and windows over into its space, but the monitor itself stays asleep. To get it to work again, I usually shutdown and boot my computer 4 or 5 times, and then eventually, the second display just magically starts working.

I’ve hit this problem with two different types of monitors, going through two different ports. At home, I dock my laptop in a docking station, and have the second monitor plugged into the docking station. At work, I plug the second monitor into the DisplayPort.

Has anyone else encountered this issue, and do you know how to fix it?

Thanks.
