Dell Inspiron N7110 white screen but no display

I have a Dell Inspiron N7110. I have the display settings set to “duplicate” or “multiple monitors”. My laptop display has quit working. The backlight is working but nothing else. Up until that time, I didn’t have any problems with the display. No streaks, no lines, no odd colors, no flickering. There wasn’t any indication of a display problem. After the display went blank, I did notice a bright spot on the screen, so I thought that the display had probably given out. I ordered and installed a new screen. The bright spot is gone but otherwise, the same problem remains. The backlight is working but nothing else. I installed a cable from the VGA port to an external monitor and everything is displayed as normal. Everything else with the computer works normally, and with the external monitor, it’s fine. But the laptop display just doesn’t work. I ran a diagnostic scan on dell.com/product-support website. The results all came back as normal. Since the failure, I have downloaded and installed updates for the video and bios from Dell as recommended on their web site. Didn’t change a thing. Any ideas what’s wrong?
