I'm working on a Dell Inspiron 1750 with the Intel video chipset. Most of the time when the computer starts it looks like the resolution is set incorrectly. I can only see the top left portion of the screen. When plugging in an external monitor via the VGA port everything displays fine.
It seems like the computer thinks the native resolution of the display is something like ~1000x600. If the resolution is set to something higher it just goes off the screen. I have removed the display from the device manager and had windows download the correct driver. But didn't have any luck. I downloaded the recommended video driver from Dell's website and downgraded the Intel driver/software. This didn't work either.
I'm starting to think this might be a hardware issue. The user isn't ready to wipe/restore the computer yet.
