Can't adjust screen brightness XPS 15

Hi,

I did a system restore recently and everything seemed to be working like new on my XPS 15 laptop. However, it seems that after installing the latest windows 8.1 and its updates (I don't know if that is related to the problem) along with the latest drivers for my integrated graphics card and nvidia geforce gt 630m (more likely related) that I am no longer able to adjust my screen brightness.

Funny thing, if I open up device manager,  toggle display adapters (the two graphics cards appear), right click on my integrated graphics card, click "properties", go to the "driver" tab, click "update driver...", click "browse my computer for driver software", click "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" and then select the "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" rather than the other options that are named similarly to my integrated graphics card (ex: "Intel(R) Graphics 4000 Version: 10.18.10.3621 [5/16/2014]") then click "Next" and have windows complete this supposed "Update" to my driver software--then and only then can I adjust my screen brightness. What the heck?

Thanks.
