Hello,
I have a problem that I can't resolve it even I have read so many forum pages with possible solutions.
Before I start describing my problem, this is my laptop configuration:
Dell Inspiron 1501
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 64 TK-55, 1800 MHz
RAM: 4GB DDR2 800MHz (2x2GB Hynix HYMP125S64CP8-S6)
HDD: Western Digital 250GB (WD2500BEVS)
VIDEO: ATI Radeon Xpress 1150, 128 MB (ATI Radeon Xpress 200/1100/1150 (RS482/RS485))
Now let's begin.
I've installed Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit) and it was OK. Only one thing wasn't so good, Windows didn't recognized my video card, on Device Manager at Display Adapters it showed Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
I check Dell drivers support, but the latest driver for my laptop video card is for Windows Vista (32bit). I look at AMD ATI driver support, but the latest driver was for Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit).
I was very disappointed but after this, I looked over the internet and I found on a forum how to install the ATI driver for Windows 7 on Windows 8.
I have installed the driver and now on Device Manager at Display Adapters it shows ATI Radeon Xpress 1150. I was very happy and thought that I resolved the problem.
But now came the real problem.
I shut down the computer and when I start it, the Windows logo and the loading dots circle appears, but after that black screen.
In a moment of inspiration I restart the computer (not shut down) using shortcuts (ALT+F4 then down key to restart). Right after I press Enter to restart, the desktop appears for 1-2 second, then appears the restart message.
After restart I was able to enter normally in Windows. I restarted again and Windows worked fine. I shut down the computer and then start it again, but same problem, black screen. Restarted with shortcuts and Windows works fine.
I don't know if the problem is from video card driver or Windows, my instinct says is video driver.
Please help me.
