Display will not automatically turn off or go to sleep

Hi - I bought an Inspiron 15 (3542) about 3 months ago...running Windows 8 64 bit. The display screen will not automatically turn off/time out/go to sleep on its own. After I am done using the computer, it just stays on...I often come home to a glowing office because the display will not go to sleep. I have tried several driver updates, changed settings, etc.. but to no avail.

I have changed the time limits to turn off and sleep in the Power options menu several times but it doesn't seem to be recognizing those settings. I have also checked almost every "advanced setting" in the power menu including the hybrid sleep, allow to sleep when sharing multi media etc. I had some connectivity issues when I first got it, but disabling the factory Bluetooth seemed to fix that issue...not sure if this is related to that...but I sure hope not. When I restart, if I leave it on the login/locked screen, the display will turn off/timeout. But once I login, it will not turn off/timeout/sleep.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running out of ideas and this is becoming very annoying.

Thank You!
