I have a Precision 6800 laptop with a K3100 discrete GPU as well as the Intel integrated HD 4600 GPU in the i7-4800MQ CPU. I have the Intel HD GPU currently disabled in the BIOS as it does not appear to have a useful purpose with the Nvidia GPU in place.
I have the 6800 docked to a Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Port Replicator with USB3. It currently has 2 x Asus 24" VE248 LCD monitors attached to the DVI ports on the Port Replicator at the 1920x1080 native resolution which works fine. The Asus monitors have HDMI and DVI inputs, no DisplayPort.
I want to add a third VE248 monitor to the setup when the laptop is docked. What is the best way to achieve this with a digital connection? (I.E. Not using the VGA port)
I was wondering if I can I use one of the two DisplayPort ports on the port replicator at the same time as the DVI ports with a DisplayPort to HDMI/DVI adaptor? Alternatively can I use the DisplayPort on the right-side of the laptop with an adaptor at the same time? (I already know I can't use the HDMI port as it is on the rear of the laptop so is inaccessible when docked. )
If necessary I assume I could also use an external USB3 video adapter but I'd rather avoid that extra component if possible.
Thanks,
Daniel.
