Blue lines and green speckles on M6800 laptop display

Hi all,

I have an M6800 with an AMD/ATI FirePro M6100 running Kubuntu 14.04 64-bit and the
latest Catalyst drivers (14.20-140529a-173820E). I also have the latest BIOS (A08). Two scenarios: 1) If I power on with the BIOS option Video=>Switchable Graphics=>Enable Switchable
Graphics *unchecked*, I get blue lines on the laptop screen as shown in the
screenshots at the links below. Sometimes the problem is even worse and I see green
speckles and it is almost unusable once Kubuntu has booted. 2) If I power on with this option *checked*, the lines are not there and the laptop
display is fine. However, Kubuntu then cannot see my Dell U2713HMT monitor
that I have connected to my docking station via DisplayPort. I also have another
monitor connected via DVI. In scenario 1, xrandr detects both monitors correctly as DFP5 and DFP9 (and the
laptop as LVDS) and I can configure them easily and everything works. In scenario 2, xrandr detects the laptop as eDP1, the monitor connected via DVI as
HDM1 and the monitor connected via DisplayPort as DP1 (but disconnected). I cannot
configure the dual screen setup to work at all.
Both xrandr outputs are given below.
So, the questions: 1) What is the correct/default setting of this BIOS option supposed to be? 2) Why do I see these blue lines and other video issues with it unchecked? 3) What can I do to have the lines and videos issues disappear and also have
Kubuntu be able to detect and use both monitors correctly? Many thanks for your help and time! Ken P.S. Catalyst Control Centre says I have a "AMD Radeon HD 8950".
