At work I have a Latitude E6430 laptop with Win7 Pro 64 bit. I was experiencing some problems when trying to connect the PC to a TV via HDMI. I therefore tried to update the video drivers from the Dell website. If I remember correctly I first installed the Intel HD 4000 driver, but I erroneously selected the 32 bit driver. A pop-up during the installation process told me the driver was incorrect, and I found the correct 64 bit-driver and installed it. Then I installed the NVS 5200M 64 bit driver.
The PC was working fine after the reboot. But the next time I booted the PC I got a blue screen and was forced to do a windows system restore. I tried to reinstall the drivers but the result was the same when the PC rebooted. After several system restores I got to a point where no Intel or nVidia-drivers where left in the Device manager, only the generic Windows VGA driver. If I try to install the Intel driver it tells me that the system doesn't meet the basic requirements to install, a.k.a. doesn't seem to find the graphics card. If I try the nVidia driver the installation goes OK, but Windows crashes after reboot.
The IT department has now done a clean installation of Win7 (but not yet installed all the Dell-drivers in the specified order). They tried to install the Intel driver but got the same pop-up as me. They say that they have managed to install the nVidida driver without problems (at least to the next reboot...).
What's wrong and what's the solution?
