Hello Dell and community,
Our Dell, 14R-N4110, had been running extremely well until the latest dell Video driver greeted me with a blue screen (BSOD) citing atikmpag.sys error. Nothing assigned to High Performance works, resulting in BSOD and boot-up. Interestingly, ths Dell system came with AMD HD 6630M.
For some reason, the Dell website shows update options for AMD HD 7560/7450M. Maybe, the basic architecture of both chips are the same, hence the wrong GPU being listed; maybe not. If I manually assign graphics based on power source, blue screen. If I open a browser assigned to high performance, blue screen. I'm on Intel HD 3000 right now, because I've had too many blue screens greeting me.
The most interesting phenomenon was I trying to install Google Chrome. The poor guy couldn't even install. Guess what happened when the file finished downloading and dared to install itself on a Dell? Blue screen! Poor Chrome's video rendering module (while installing) must have accessed, or tried to communicate with, the legendary 7560/7450's driver on the system and, well, paid the price for doing so.
The AMD 7650/7450's 2nd latest driver - which had worked before - refuses to download. IE tells me, "These sort of files are normally not downloaded. It may be unsafe". lol. Dell! (that's me yelling for some help). Thoughts?
Google reports plenty of issues associated with atikmpag.sys's lethal shock and awe weapon - BSOD. Dell, I yell again. Some help. Why am I being sarcastic? Several months back, I put up a post about the very same issue associated with AMD HD 6630M having update options from a 7650/7450. It went on deaf ears. Now, it's come back to haunt me and Dell.
