On my W8.1 x 64 16GB Dell Inspiron 15R, I appear to have a condition that is related to the display freezing when I use too much memory. This can be in a game or just a large array in a program. A Dell service rep suggested going to Intel for an updated driver.
Intel latest revision for my machine, using their detection program, is 15.33.18.64.3496 (Intel® HD Graphics 4400) and the latest version posted on the Dell site is Version 10.18.10.3308,A01.
Attempts to install the driver from Intel result in a message: "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer. Please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer manufacturer."
The Dell driver is dated in November of 2013, and appears to be several revisions back (10 versus 15.)
If in fact there were problems with the Intel Driver around W8.1, why is Dell not providing an update? In any event, certainly Dell knows that graphics driver software is always needing to be updated.
Are there alternatives?
