I have a Dell XPS 15 that I purchased in June of 2012. the machine came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit and I bought it soon after the $15 windows 8 upgrade promotion had started. I got my Windows 8 download and while visiting the support site I noticed that on the date that Windows 8 was officially released Ell put up drivers for the sound, video, chipset, networking devices, and so forth but Windows 8 does not seem to want to play nice with the integrated Webcam. Trying to use the Windows 8 Camera application, Skype or anything that has the capability to use the webcam produces a "There is a problem with the camera" or the webcam preview screen will also remain black. While I know Logitech and other venders Have webcams that are ready for Windows 8 but I don't want to have spend the money unless I have to. I went to the Dell download software site which allows you to download the software that came with your computer from the factory and when I try to download both versions of the Dell Webcam Software neither one will download despite it telling me that I have at least two download attempts available. I am beginning to wonder if this particular model has been discontinued.
