Note: I have switchable GPUs. The powerful one is the AMD HD6970M, and the other says "Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000".
I've had problems with my Alienware laptop lately, and I think it's to do with my drivers. My GPU driver is from October 2012, and there's a July 2013 one on the website. I've downloaded it as a zip file, but when I run the program and it gives the, "all files have been successfully unzipped" message, nothing changes.
I restarted and checked the dell drivers folder, but nothing new there.
I uninstalled the AMD programs from my Programs and Features panel, ran driversweeper, and restarted again. This reduced my resolution, and under Display Adapters in Device Manager, it says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)". Going to the driver tab of my 6970M says that the current driver is the same from 2012.
What do I need to do to delete the old driver and successfully install the new one? I may sound like I know my way around, but I really don't. I can also post the dxdiag, but I won't without request because of the amount of space it takes.
Because of the switchable graphics, my drivers are custom and can't be obtained from the AMD website. Only the Dell ones work..at least, they're supposed to.
Huge Thanks in advance!
Edit: I uninstalled the 6970M driver in Device Manager and then ran driversweeper again and rebooted, this time into safe mode. A new driver installed automatically, almost instantly upon loading the desktop. The driver date and versions are newer than the those of the one I got from the dell website. I do not have any form of Catalyst Control Center or other GPU managing software, and I'm stuck on the secondary GPU, which still had (code 19), as I quoted above. My resolution is also still maxing out at 768x1024, rather than the 1600x900 that it should be at.
How do I get my secondary gpu working and CCC back so I can swap back to my 6970M?
Here's a link to the dell driver page for my PC specifically: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/ServiceTag/8Y0H2Q1
