Greetings Dell Multiverse.
Last night, my Dell Studio 1558 lost most of its video capabilities. At first, the display adapter would stop responding and Win7 would recover. Then, the bluescreens began with regard to atikmpag.sys.
I reinstalled the drivers and everything appeared stable. I walked away for about 15 minutes and came back to a blank screen on my TV (HDMI connected) and a blank screen on my laptop (both were still on and fully powered). When I disconnected the HDMI cable from the laptop, the screen was still blank (at this point, it should have switched back to the laptop LCD). Power-cycled and still got nothing (not even the Dell logo). Out of desperation, I even reseated the memory. Still blank. However, if I connected the TV to the laptop using old school VGA, it works fine.
Any ideas? It seems the video on the board is shot, but maybe someone has seen this before and has a fix that does not involve replacing the whole board (why would VGA-out still work too?). I am finding it quite difficult to locate the precise board for my system:
Laptop: Dell Studio 1558 - Model 0874P6 (according to CPU-Z)
Chipset: Intel Havendale/Clarkdale Host Bridge
Soutbridge: Intel HM55
Video: ATI HD5470
CPU: Intel i3 350M 2.27GHz, Socket 989 rPGA
OS: Win 7 64-bit Home Premium
I know other boards just have the Intel Video and would fit the case, but not too sure about the processor and heat sink.
Many thanks for your time and any assistance you may offer.
