*Please note that I am not super tech-savvy, so I would appreciate detailed instructions on how to fix the problem more than explanations that I won't really understand.
I have had this laptop (Precision M6600) for a year and a half. Besides a small display problem that was quickly solved when I first got it, I have never had a problem like this with this laptop.
Yesterday morning, I was using it with no problems. Everything was functioning fine. All of a sudden, my screen flashed and then returned with 3/4 of my window showing on the right, and the overflow of that window showing on the left, with a flashing, rainbow colored stripe in between. I was unable to move my mouse and the screen appeared to be frozen at this stage. Confused, I turned my computer off and turned it back on.
The computer works fine in Safe Mode (no weird stripes, floating pixels/colors, etc) but when I try to turn it on in normal mode, I go from the loading screen with the Dell logo to a black screen (backlit, so the computer is on but not showing anything) instead of the log-in window. I was told by a tech to try uninstalling and reinstalling my graphic card driver, which I did. After re-installing the driver and restarting, I finally got to the log in page...but it looked like this:
My mouse was unable to move on this screen, nor was I able to type into the password box, so I shut it down again.
Again, the display is completely fine in safe mode (it looks like Safe Mode normally does) and according to the diagnostics test all the hardware should be functioning correctly. I am only having trouble with the display when I try to run the computer on normal mode - I see a black screen instead of the log-in screen OR I see something like the above image. Does anyone have advice for what I can try and do to fix this problem? Thank you.
