DisplayPort on TB15 on Dell XPS15 randomly shutting off

$

Last week, my TB15 worked pretty reliably. However, starting today, the DisplayPort just randomly shuts done. The only fix is to reboot the laptop.

The HDMI output continues to work fine.

This is really slowing me down, because I rely heavily on multiple monitors.

Anyone else seeing issues with the DisplayPort on the TB15?

I'm pretty sure this is a heat issue. The unit is always hot to the touch when it shuts down.

Help: XPS 15 9550 + Ultrawide with Thunderbolt

If I connect an XPS 15 9550 (which has Thunderbolt 3.0) to one of the LG Ultrawide monitors that supports thunderbolt, will the monitor essentially act as a thunderbolt hub for me? I.e., simply plug the thunderbolt cable into my laptop, and I have all my connections? (limited by the number of ports on the monitor, of course).

How much of a difference does it make if the monitor supports original Thunderbolt (such as LG 34UC97-S or 34UM95-P) or Thunderbolt 2.0 (LG 34UC98W)?

Thank you!!

Dell Inspiron 15 7559 Major Screen Flickering After Waking Up From Sleep. Requires Restart.

This is a recent problem I ran into with my new 7559. About a week ago I did a factory reset because the speakers were having a problem, and it worked fine for a couple days. Afterwards it would go into this flickering loop after it would wake up from sleep. This makes it so anytime I'm not using the laptop I basically have to shut it down, which really ***. I've posted a link of what the issue looks like. I ran the dell hardware test and my computer passed, and I also updated my drivers so I don't know what else to do. Thank you to anyone who can shed some light on what's happening.

Can I connect new Precision 15 5000 series laptop to U2713HM monitor and display at 2560 x 1440?

Can I connect new Precision 15 5000 series laptop to U2713HM monitor and display at 2560 x 1440? And which connection to use?

My current setup is Precision M6600 with advanced port replicator, hooked up to a U2713HM monitor - via DVI which runs at 2560 x 1440 resolution.

I'm thinking of upgrading my laptop to the newer Precision 15 5000 Series which has a 4k screen. It appears from the website that the dock to use is the Thunderbolt Dock - which is yet to be released.

I'm pretty happy with my monitor and don't need to upgrade just yet.

Will I be able to use my U2713HM monitor at full res with Precision 15 5000 series laptop and/or Thunderbolt dock?

I asked customer sales, but they were unable to answer me.

Latitude E7470 External Monitors with Dock Problems

Hello,

I have a Latitude E7470 for work and when I first started using it with my docking station to external monitors, I was noticing a similar issue as was brought up in the thread linked below. One of my two external monitors (seemingly randomly) would flicker once, or periodically to a point where it was distracting. Additionally, I have seen the graphics card crash a few times after such problems appeared.

I implemented the "fix" that was linked (and marked as the answer to the thread) over lunch about a week ago, and more things went haywire from there. Basically, at this point I am unable to connect to any external monitors through the docking station. I have resorted to having a single monitor connected via HDMI, but it is hardly conducive to working and I would really like to have my multiple monitor setup back (even with the flashing problem, at the least).

Is there any way to undo the actions I have run, or is there a more up to date fix for this issue?

Link to "fix":

Any response and guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'd really like to not have to resort to getting a different style (USB 3.0) docking station if I can prevent it.

Video problems after Windows 10 upgrade and subsequent rollback to Windows 7

Hi.  I have had a series of events and am looking for advice on whether I have a hardware or software issue.

I have a Dell N5050 N15 laptop running Windows 7.  PC was working fine and mistakenly did a Windows 10 upgrade on this laptop.  Windows told me my device was compatible.  Upgrade downloaded over days and sort of upgraded but then all of the sudden the screen became black.  I plugged it into an external monitor and was able to see the screen and the windows 10 finished upgrading and seemed successful but i had no laptop  monitor and no mouse.

I started doing some research and found out this PC was not compatible with Windows 10.  So I ended up rolling back to windows 7 which also seemed successful.  My mouse became responsive but no screen still.

I  tried updating video drivers and it said my drivers were current.  i also tried deleting and reinstaling drivers as i heard Windows 10 removed old drivers.  At one point I could see the screen faintly in the background using a flashlight.  I also tried to reconnect the LCD thinking maybe the connection got loose.

I no longer see any screen at all but still works with external monitor.

So I am wondering if it is the screen, the backlight or inverter or still something with the drivers since this sort of just coincidentally happened after the Windows 10 issue with the video.  I am not sure what the proper drivers even are for this device anymore.

I suppose I can try the new screen but hate to waste time and money if this is not the issue. Thanks for any advice.  Any additional troubleshooting i can do or drivers I can try to see if it is the drivers or the screen itself.

Temperature of ATI AMD Radeon R7 M265 Series (Dell) in a Inspiron 7548 laptop reading 511C!! Help!

This is obviously not true, but i was trying to get to the bottom of a noisy fan issue, and i think this misreading of the graphics card might be culprit.

I have updated the latest gpu drivers and ran the dell detect with no new drivers returned.  Still programs like Speccy and Speedfan are giving me this 952 F  reading, which would melt into a puddle if it were the case.

I am trying to stop the fan in this laptop to stop continuous preparing for take off fan noise when i am browsing the internet, it cannot be taxing the hardware this much.

Any replies or suggestions for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Issue with Screen after going to Windows 10 and then reverting back to Windows 7 on a Dell Insipiron N5050

I am having an issue with my laptop screen since attempting the Windows 10 upgrade (and then reverting back to Windows 7)

I can use an external monitor but not the build in laptop monitor.

Here is the series of events.

- Upgraded to windows 10.  Prompts told me PC was compatible.

- Upgrade seemed to have trouble.  Downloaded for a long time and then upgraded.  It's my husbands laptop.  I tried this a week before he left and it just was downloading when I last saw the PC.  He was travelling with it so I am not exactly sure what happened to it and what he saw on the screen or how it even got klcked off.

- When he returned home he said screen was not working.  I plugged it into an external monitor and found the upgrade was just completing.  Also mouse was unresponsive.  Plugged in a USB mouse and was able to use the laptop.  Upgrade seemed to have worked but no mouse and no monitor.

- Found out that the PC is not compatible with Windows 10.  Rather than messing with it I did a restore back to Windows 7 thinking that might fix all the issue and was the safer option.  Mouse became responsive but still no monitor.

- Tried to update video drivers and also opened the laptop to see if video cable was plugged in.  Also deleted drivers and tried to download new drivers.  Everything says the device is working and drivers is up to date.

- I was able to see the screen faintly at times using a flashlight but after doing the last round of troubleshooting I cannot.  It now appears totally black (perhaps I didnt get it plugged in correctly).  Still works with the external monitor.

- Could the timing be that my monitor just happened to go bad at the same time as the windows upgrade and I need a new monitor or inverter?  Or is there still some type of driver issue since this laptop appears to have issues with the video and windows 10?

Any additional troubleshooting i can do to find out where the issue is?  What are the proper drivers and dates for this laptop.  Is there anything i can do to install something fresh?

Thanks!

Streaming video stutters then audio lags.

This computer is brand new Inspiron 15. When I stream video, after a while, it stutters then the sound starts lagging. Sometimes video turns green. When I pause it, the sound continues for a sec. If I re buffer (move the cursor on the video a bit) it re syncs but not for long. Other times the player simply shuts down in the middle of the session. I have blocked third parties applications from start-up. I have clear my cache (this once worked for a while then it began again), reset cookies, reset my browsers and at one point I even turned off the Superfetch. I also downloaded all the updates and reinstalled GEForce Nvidia driver.  I ran the diagnostics tool and all systems check which leads me to believe the problem is with Windows 10.

The problem occurs sometimes in YouTube but it is more noticeable when I stream from Vodlocker.com. When I stream from Filehoot.com the player fails after a few minutes..  Please help

P.S.

I found under 'other devices' two Unknown devices

15R 5521 Webcamera gone missing - no help from diagnostic

I use an Inspiron 15R 5521 (with touch screen) laptop. Until about a month ago, my webcamera worked fine. However, all of a sudden, I found that no application was able to use it.  Snooping around, I found that the the webcamera has gone missing from my device manager (I tried refreshing, re-starting. The imaging device option does not exist). So, I ran the diagnostic test from Dell for camera but it failed to run the test because it too, couldnt find the device.

I have not done anything unusual since the last time I was able to use the webcamera. There have been some updates from Windows, but I fail to understand why the camera would go missing!

What do I do? I use Windows 10. I am aware there are some issues with drivers upon update to Windows 10, but I was able to use the webcam well for a while.

Inspiron 7559 Touchscreen Issues

Hi everyone, I've got some seriously weird touchscreen issues with the Inspiron 7559 4K screen. I will boot up the computer, and it seems to work fine for a bit, and then it stops responding. My driver seems to be up to date and Device Manager reports the touch screen as working. It's not.

I am hoping I didn't hit something and disable it or something equally stupid, though that would probably be an easy fix. Anybody run into anything like this, and if so, any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Lnux + XPS 15 9550: Nvidia card fails; HDMI fails

I have problems with using an external monitor with my XPS 15 9550, while running Linux.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 16.04 on Linux 4.4.0. It runs fine on the intel driver and laptop screen but as soon as I plug in an HDMI monitor the whole system freezes. This happens whether I use the in-built HDMI port or the one on the USB 3.1 extra ports thing.

Installing the Nvidia drivers just results in X unable to start. (I've tried 361.28)..

I've tried a later kernel (4.5.0) and i've tried a different distro (Fedora).

I'm booting ubuntu in UEFI mode. To get fedora to boot I had to use BIOS mode.
