XPS 9350 Display colors look washed out

$

I received a replacement laptop from Dell to replace a defective XPS 13 9343.  They sent me a 9350 model (the warranty states Dell will send me an equal or better system replace my defective laptop).

However the monitor on the replacement seems like it's substantially lower quality.  The listed specs are:

9343:
13.3 inch UltraSharp(TM) QHD+ (3200 x 1800) InfinityEdge touch display

9350 replacement:
13.3" QHD+ (3200 x 1800) InfinityEdge touch display

As you can see from this photo of the laptops side-by-side, the 9350 (LEFT) whites look very washed out.  The white is almost a yellow compared to the 9343 (RIGHT).  The difference is very noticeable:

My questions are:

1) is there a settings in the Intel HD Graphics control panel to adjust the "whiteness" of the display?  Or in Windows?  (the new replacement is an upgraded Windows 10 vs Windows 8.1 on the old laptop).

2) could this be a problem with the monitor itself?  A sub-standard or defective monitor?  Is there a way for me to check what the monitor is to determine if it's a lower quality monitor?

3) or does the 9350 just ship with a lower quality monitor?  What feature of the monitor determines "whiteness"?  Contrast ratio?

4) what are my options?  I don't know too much about laptop displays, but paying a few hundred more for an upgraded display and then seeing the "whites" look almost yellow has me disappointed

XPS 13 9350 - display colors seem faded

I have both a Dell XPS 13 model 9343, and the newest 9350.  Both have the high end QHD+ 3200x1800 touch display.  However, the colors on the newer 9350 seem washed out.  This is especially noticeable on an all-white screen when the white has a yellow/brown tint to it.  Here they are side-by-side:

The 9350 (LEFT) is noticeably washed out.  The 9343 (RIGHT) has a brilliant white color that rivals Macs and any other laptop I've seen.

Can I adjust the 9350 video settings to match the sharp and crisp colors of the 9343?

Or is the 9350 display inferior to the 9343?

Or is this a problem with the display hardware itself?

Alienware 15 R2 video from Netflix app or Edge or IE can't be displayed using HDMI

Hi,

I recently got the Alienware 15 R2 on December and since then I been trying to watch Netflix videos from the Windows 10 Netflix App on my 46" Samsung TV and it just displays a black screen, I can hear the audio. If I open the lid of the Laptop while reproducing the video then I works on the Laptop's screen but not on the TV. Chrome and Firefox are the only browsers that are able to reproduce Video on Netflix at the moment with the HDMI plugged in.

What I did so far?

I used to have an Asus Laptop, and it was able to reproduce the video perfectly to the same TV and HDMI cable even the POST screen.

I have tried the settings to Windows Key + P  to set the 2nd Screen only all the time of course cause I always have the Laptop lid closed.

Updating my NVidia drivers didn't help.

Checking the Configs by application on NVidia Control Pannel didn't help either.

So, I don't know if any body here has this issues and they has been fixed with the latest BIOS update or maybe is just that now by Design we can't even display video to a 2nd screen on Alienware Laptops like any useless MAC.

Notice that Gaming is awesome but if I'll be doing any presentation, I'll be embarrassed if my video is not shown on a big screen.

Kind regards.

Managing two graphic cards on laptop

Hi,

my Inspiron 5558 has two graphic cards. Intel HD Graphics 5500 and NVIDIA GeForce 920M. My intention is to use the external display as a main one (connected via HDMI port), For a while I have been struggling finding the way to be sure wether my laptop uses one or another graphic card. Then, once running the external display only, I tried to run the NVIDIA control panel and message about no device being attached to NVIDIA appeared.

So, the conclusion is that video signal is transferred to HDMI port only from Intel HD Graphics (built-in) or am I wrong?

Thank you in advance.

"Cast to Device" isn't working

Hi,

I've only had my Dell Inspiron 5558 for 11 days and one issue I'm facing is that my media will not cast to my smart Samsung TV. I didn't have issues with this on my ancient Toshiba laptop, nor any other laptops in the house, and even my phone. So what gives Dell?

When I try casting to my TV it either

-Immediately says Device Error

-Tries to play the movie but starts really slow and then quits after about 10 seconds

-Mirrors my screen on the TV which is not what I want, I just want to play the movie. Also when it does this, the TV is minutes behind in terms of mirror the laptop screen. It stays frozen and then shows the actions I've performed, like moving my mouse, minutes later.

-Usually a purple window flashes for a second. In the rare chance that it stays up, the options are "Share" and "Settings" which doesn't work.

-Says Error Casting to Device.

I've spoken with Tech Support and they sent me a new wifi card, didn't fix my issue, and then I was told to reset my PC which wasn't a big deal as it's only 11 days old, I don't have much on it. Still having issues casting.

Also when the screen does cast, it doesn't fill up my whole TV.

Please help, also here's my case reference number 922356457.

Thanks in advance for future suggestions!

Bone stock Dell XPS 410 - upgrade graphics to Geforce 730 or 750?

$

What makes more sense to upgrade to? The XPS 410 is all stock as it came from the factory and currently sports a dying GeForce 8600 GS. I run 2 monitors and the DVI output is starting to get intermittent.  Flight sims and racing sims run okay but I can't run with everything on. I really don't play current games, mostly cruise the net and watch video.

The 730 are running around $70 and the 750 around $120. I know the MB and processor will bottleneck most of the newer cards of today so most upgrades are kind of a waste. I do plan on either upgrading a few things in the future or taking the video card with me to a new chassis when that day comes.

So, what would make the most sense? Saving a few $ on the 730 or getting a little more currently unuseable bang for almost twice the money? The XPS was a great decision, it has been rock solid for many many years, would just like to keep it going and get a little more fun with it.

Thoughts please?

Games run with a black screen using Nvidia 750M, but run fine with integrated card (Dell XPS 15, Windows 8.1)

On my Dell XPS 15 (2013, Windows 8.1, up to date Nvidia drivers), the majority of games run with a black screen using the Nvidia GT 750M card (the audio plays and a cursor shows, but nothing more), however they run fine when using the integrated graphics card.

After days of Googling I've made no progress, other than being led to believe it may be DirectX related. What I can do about it though, I'm really not sure!

Games I've tried that are affected (run with a black screen);

  • Tomb Raider (2013)
  • Trials Fusion
  • PixelJunk Shooter
  • Ori and the Blind Forest
  • Jotun

Games I've tried that run fine;

  • Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons
  • Ghostbusters: The Video Game
  • Enslaved - Odyssey to the West

I've tried completely removing and re-installing the latest Nvidia driver (the Dell-approved version) with no joy.

I got a new laptop 84JF262 right from the time first month i had problem with power supply. The screen goes off when connected or removed power adapter to laptop. I contacted tech team but none of them fixed this and sent a technician but he messed up more my laptop started running very very slow upon further checking it said 2nd RAM was missing. not sure why tech guy double check if all components were connected correctly.

Had to send it back to depot to look or investigate in this regard as the power supply issue was not fixed still.

Sent to depot still the issue continues even sent a video helping them understand the issue multiple times. But nobody cares, surendranath says that he is from corporate office and anybody from customer support says anything he is not responsible for that as they don't work on dell payrolls.

I can't remember how many times I contacted dell and lots of people promise many things NONE OF THEM TRULY WANT TO FIX MY ISSUE OR WANT TO GIVE MY MONEY BACK EVEN THOUGH ITS YOUR FAULT. LET THE CUSTOMER DIE BUT YOU'LL KEEP SAYING WE ARE TRYING OUR BEST.

I'M  A STUDENT NOT SURE WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE GET TROUBLE A STUDENT FOR WHOM A LAPTOP IS A MUST.

My less than 1 year old expensive Dell M3800 will not boot up. Power button and keyboard led lights are lit but the monitor remains blank. There are some vague support references to removing the battery and holding the power button down for 10 sec but the battery is not removeable without opening the case - how practical is that? any other ideas or fixes?

Dell Latitude E6430 with E Port Plus II Docking Station - Works with one external monitor but not two?

I have a Dell Latitude E6430 with the Dell E Port Plus II Docking Station.  I am running Windows 10

1023MB NVIDIA NVS 5200M (Dell) 47 °C
Storage
232GB Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB (SSD) 40 °C

I plug one monitor in(DVI port) and it works fine.  If I plug in a second monitor(DVI port 2), both won't work.  If I unplug either monitor, the other works.  I have tested both monitors, on both ports, and both ports and both monitors work, and both ports work... Just not at the same time.  I had this working previously on Windows 7 with my other E6430(same specs).

If I connect an HDMI monitor/TV to the HDMI port directly on the laptop, I can run a third screen that way... But I really want to run two DVI monitors to allow for easy/quick docking and undocking.

Also, I have the latest NVIDIA Drviers downloaded straight from the Dell website.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Searching online and in this forum has turned up nothing, so I turn my questions over to you, the wizards...

The only thing I can find so far is that uefi is not happening,

the only thing I did was to upgrade my bios to version shown in screenshot.

be warned about bios updating you need to understand the risks,

the bios upgrade would have been better to be done prior to upgrade and this would have caused less problems.

The Nov update installed all drivers as you can see.

Best way would be to upgrade bios do microsoft upgrade to register pc on microsoft servers download media creation tool, make flash drive then install windows 10.

I check back in from time to time if you do have a question icould be awhile before I respond.

E7250 video driver cursor and black screen problems

$

I have a new E7250 that is experiencing a variety of video problems apparently related to the GPU. In IE, with GPU enabled in the IE Advance options, the cursor will change from a hand to pointer and back with every tiny mouse movement. Video conferencing will cause the entire screen to go black then reappear about every 5 seconds. And some video streams, such as "Watch Now" on  will fail to render at all. Each of these problems seems to go away when I disable the GPU rendering in IE's Advanced options, albeit at the cost of using much slower CPU rendering and video stutter.

The machine has a Inter(R) HD Graphics 5500 Display driver, set to Digital Display DELL P2213, 1680x1050, 59Hz, driver 20.19.15.4312.  Update Driver says this version is up-to-date, but based on the last 4 digits, we thing there might be a more recent driver.

Can anyone shed light on these symptoms and a possible fix?

Thanks,

Erik

Hello everyone,

Okay so I have this Dell XPS L502X Laptop which I purchased in 2012. The Laptop came with Microsoft Windows 7 Home Edition.

Earlier its HDMI output to my Sony LED used to work fine.

But few months ago, as offered by Microsoft, I upgraded my Laptop OS from Windows 7 Home edition to Windows 10 home edition.  Since upgrade everything has worked just fine except, I do not receive HDMI output to my television.

I have tried searching for online solutions but not sure what could be the problem? Can someone please guide me in right direction?

Thank you.

XPS15 Color Calibration

I recently purchased an XPS15 for my photography business. This laptop was highly recommended for photo editing due to the high resolution screen and processing power.  However the screen colors are so over saturated that I am unable to use this laptop for photo editing.

Can someone please advise me how to calibrate the screen colors to commercial print standards.
